Library Assistant Evening and Weekend Team

Birkbeck, University of London - Library Services

Purpose and Main Duties
We are looking for a library assistant to join our evening and weekend team, working on Sundays. The hours of work are from 8.15am to 1.45pm for most of the year, changing to 9.45am to 6.15pm during the summer vacation.

Our library is unique, serving as we do a student body mostly made up of people who are studying around other commitments such as full-time work, so our evening and weekend team is a very important part of the experience our students have.

Candidate Requirements
We are looking for someone with an excellent attitude to professional customer service, who is able and willing to go out of their way to provide the right information and support at all times. As our Sunday team is small, reliability is crucial, as is the ability to work collaboratively and share skills and knowledge with others. As well as helping library users, we also spend a lot of time on Sundays re-shelving and tidying the books, so we need someone happy to participate extensively in this manual work. If this sounds like you, as well as the general benefits of working at Birkbeck, we can offer the chance to be part of a friendly supportive team, and access to training and development opportunities.
