Web Designer - Research (Fixed-term)

This full-time post is initially for 6 months with the potential opportunity to extend.

The University of Nottingham is seeking to recruit an experienced Web Developer/Web Designer to deliver research related websites across the University's public global presence.   

Working as part of the Web team and reporting to the Head of Web, This role will take responsibility for the Research websites, pages and other web solutions globally in the UK, China and Malaysia. This will involve working closely with Research experts to understand their requirements as well as other stakeholders within the university. 

Working to guidelines and with support form other Web team members this post will take responsibility for ensuring design, and architectural integrity is maintained by all work produced for research.

To be considered immediately for this role you should have the following key skills and experience:


  • Significant experience of developing websites for large organisations using a content management system 
  • Experience Creating and editing of graphics using Adobe Photoshop or another graphics package 
  • Good understanding of web accessibility & usability guidelines and principles 
  • Knowledge of W3C accessibility guidelines and the importance of Equality Act compliance 
  • Strong problem solving skills 
  • Written communication and presentation skills 
  • Awareness of Brand Compliance and its importance 
  • Ability to demonstrate concepts and technologies to a non-technical audience both verbally and in writing 
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently as required  


  • Knowledge and experience of using Contensis CMS
  • Previous experience working in a Higher Education environment
  • Previous experience of complex Research web projects
  • Awareness of legal issues such as copyright, data protection and GDPR

The remit and scope of the External Relations Department has significantly expanded in the last two years in terms of size and complexity of responsibilities. With over 270 dedicated members of staff, we have responsibility for all communications, marketing and student recruitment activities across the University, providing support to our Campuses in the UK, Ningbo China and Malaysia.
