Tissue Handling Technician - ProMOTE

We are looking for a Tissue Handling Technician to work in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Your role will include providing operational and technical support for the ProMOTE study, together with day to day support for the Biorepository Manager. You will be working in the Oxford Biocore team - the NDS Tissue Handling Platform.

You will be working on the ProMOTE study, a new surgical intervention/imaging trial which will test novel, cutting-edge imaging techniques in patients with high-risk prostate cancer. Your role in this exciting project will include collecting snap frozen tissue samples in theatre, transferring surgical samples and diagnostic specimens to the cellular pathology department and working with the pathologist to process and collect a predefined set of samples for each ProMOTE patient. You will act as “champion” for the study in all interactions with stakeholders.

You will also provide day to day support for the Bio-repository Manager across a range of projects, including maintaining and developing the bio-repository freezer and liquid nitrogen storage facilities and performing audits of sample collections.

You will have proven work experience in bio-banking or clinical trials support, together with relevant knowledge of legislation that surrounds working with Human Tissue. The successful candidate will needs to possess excellent communication skills, as they will be liaising closely with surgeons, pathologists and other research professionals. A willingness to be flexible is essential in this role, along with past experience of tissue sample collection and working to defined ‘Standard Operating Procedures’ (SOPs).   

This post is for 0.8 FTE (4 days per week) but we would be willing to accept applications for full-time hours. Please state on your application if you have a preference for part- or full-time hours. This post is available immediately and is fixed-term for 12 months in the first instance.
