The University of Bristol’s School of Physics seeks an outstanding candidate for a permanent academic appointment in Condensed Matter Theory. An appointment may be at Lectureship/Senior Lectureship/Reader level depending on the experience and calibre of the candidate. The appointee will have a strong independent, internationally leading research programme in condensed matter theory with a focus on subjects which overlap with our existing theoretical or experimental activities. These include spin and charge transport in thin films and multilayers, the fundamental physics of superconductors and highly correlated electron systems, including their normal state charge and magnetic excitations, topological materials and semiconductors.

You should have an outstanding record of theoretical physics research leading to significant publications in the field of condensed matter physics; experience of scientific leadership, preferably in an international context. You should be able to teach across a significant part of the core physics curriculum (including advanced courses in theoretical and condensed matter physics) with potential to achieve excellence in UG and PG teaching.

The School hosts three EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training: Condensed Matter Physics, Functional Nanomaterials, and Quantum Engineering. The appointee will be expected to propose PhD projects for these students and contribute to their cohort-based training.
