Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Law

University of Brighton - Brighton Business School

Bring your expertise in Land Law and ability to contribute to the teaching and assessment in other areas of Law to join the growing and vibrant Law team within Brighton Business School. Ranked in the top five Business Schools for impact in the last REF and with Law ranking number two for added value by The Economist in 2017, we are proud of our reputation for producing highly employable and adaptable graduates and postgraduates. As recognised by our TEF Silver status, academic staff at Brighton support student learning through open, friendly, student-centred attitudes towards excellence in teaching.

In addition to contributing to the teaching and research activity of the subject area, you will be expected to engage in the administration of teaching and research within the school, for example through the leadership of modules and participation in committee work. The School will endeavour to keep your administrative load light in the first year to enable you to develop your teaching and research. We have an aspiration that all staff in the School will be qualified in higher education teaching at a level equivalent to Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy; staff without formal teaching qualifications will be expected to complete our postgraduate certificate in higher education teaching or apply for an HEA fellowship via the portfolio route (pending prior teaching experience).

It is further expected that you will actively engage in research and scholarship and our strong track record of supporting research, including initiatives to support new researchers and those returning to work after prolonged absence will support you in this.

To succeed in the role you will be committed to educating students at undergraduate and postgraduate level using a mixture of traditional and innovative teaching methods and have the ability to contribute to the teaching and assessment of other areas of law. A relevant degree and postgraduate qualification in Law or equivalent professional legal qualification is also essential. At Senior Lecturer level we will require a PhD or demonstrable professional/commercial experience, a clear research record, and the ability to attract small research grants.

The University is proud to hold an Athena SWAN Bronze award and aspires to achieve a Silver award in the near future. We welcome applications from suitably qualified individuals from groups currently under-represented on our staff and actively encourage potential job sharers to apply.

In addition to personal and professional development opportunities, the University offers a generous pension scheme and annual leave package including additional leave over the Christmas period.

Further details:

£34,520 to £41,212 per annum at Lecturer level
£42,418 to £49,149 per annum at Senior Lecturer level

The University of Brighton is committed to equality and embraces diversity in our working, learning, research, and teaching environment. We welcome all applicants and are committed to providing a supportive and flexible working environment.
