Lecturer in the Material Culture of Ancient Egypt

£33,518 to £38,833per annum (pro rata if part time), together with USS pension benefits if required.

The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service).

The Role:

The appointee will seek to operate at an international level and publish research in respected journals.

The appointee will be expected to expand their own research activities and be capable of linking with existing research areas and research teams in the College. 

The appointee will be required to teach courses on ancient material culture and to offer teaching related to history, civilization, art, archaeology, language, and religion. The ability to read advanced ancient Egyptian texts and to teach heritage and museum-related courses and Middle Egyptian would be an advantage.

The appointee will conduct independent research and take on administrative tasks as directed by the Head of Department.

This post also requires a contribution to exciting and innovative undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and graduate supervision in the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Egyptology, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, but also across the College where required, in addition to sharing organisational and academic management responsibilities.
