Postdoctoral Research Position in Host-Pathogen Structural Biology - PNAC

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology

A postdoctoral position for a structural biologist is available in Dr Leo James’ lab at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). We use multi-disciplinary approaches to address fundamental questions in infection and immunity. You will join a highly integrated and motivated team with diverse skills and expertise across molecular biology. You will capitalize on our discovery of the cytosolic antibody receptor TRIM21 and use cutting edge structural methods to determine the molecular basis of its function and regulation. Structural data generated during the project will be used to unpick TRIM21 activity during cellular infection. It will also be used to guide our ongoing development of ‘Trim-Away’ technology, which exploits TRIM21s unique ability to perform rapid and specific protein depletion.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, biophysics or chemistry with a background in structural approaches. Experience in Cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography and complementary biophysical techniques are essential. An ability to work independently on dedicated projects is important but also to provide support and become involved with other projects in the lab.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and excels at deciphering the molecular mechanisms of life.  It provides an unsurpassed environment for both new and established researchers.  Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation.
