Software Systems Engineer (KTP Associate)

An exciting opportunity has become available to work full time on a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Manchester Metropolitan University and Air Handlers Ltd. The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a smart and scalable digital manufacturing system utilizing the latest state of the art software and digital technologies.

Company information:

Established in 1989, Air Handlers Ltd are manufacturers of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Equipment for the building services industry, providing design, estimating, manufacturing and testing service. Air Handlers’ in-house sheet fabrication and finishing facility enables the company to manufacture virtually limitless designs of bespoke air handling equipment.

Qualification we require:

You will have a good honours degree (1st or 2:1) in Computer Science or a related subject (an MSc or equivalent experience is desirable).

Application requirements:

Knowledge and/or experience is required in the following: 

  • High level programming and software development skills with experience in the .NET framework with C#.
  • Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases and SQL.
  • Knowledge of web application development using languages such as PHP, JavaScript, jQuery.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with Android App development
  • Understanding of CAD modelling using Solidworks/AutoCAD
  • Experience working with integration of existing software API's
  • Experience with the concepts of Internet of Things (IoT) and smart digital manufacturing

Personal attributes:

  • Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work to deadlines alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Capable of communicating complex concepts in a clear manner to a wide-ranging audience.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop knowledge in emerging technologies for Industry 4.0.


  • £2,000 per year to spend on personal training.
  • Attendance at two residential managerial workshops (each of one week’s duration).
