The Governing Body of Lucy Cavendish College, one of the 31 constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge, is seeking a new President, ideally from 1st October 2018 to succeed Jackie Ashley.

The College is a champion of women’s education and development. It is a centre of academic excellence that enables women of different ages and diverse backgrounds to maximise their potential. The College is a stimulating centre for debate where interdisciplinary thinking and the enjoyment of learning is promoted. The President, who is required by College statute to be a woman1, will provide inspiring and engaging leadership from within a distinct, self-governing academic community that is a registered charity2 and that holds a unique place in the University of Cambridge. The College celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 and has recently agreed an ambitious and exciting strategic plan for the next 5 years. This focuses on significant growth of student numbers and wider college membership, plus a major fundraising campaign. The President will play a significant role in the advancement and implementation of the College’s strategic vision, and she will be an advocate in representing the views and achievements of the College externally. She will be committed to the intellectual life of a leading institution of higher education.

The President must have a distinguished record of achievement, either in academic life or some other field of activity, and be able to command the respect of the Fellowship and others with whom the College is involved. She will have the ability to engage effectively with the College community and be able to build consensus through a collegial leadership style. It is important she also has an aptitude and enthusiasm for fund raising to support the College’s development.
