Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit

Full Time (36 hours per week) - Until 31.05.2019

We are looking to appoint a Data Manager to support the team at Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit, University of Birmingham.

The work will involve assisting with the collection, computerisation, checking and querying of patient data from questionnaires and forms, ensuring accurate and timely data are recorded for the trial. You will handle queries from doctors and nurses and resolve routine problems with the data. You will be a member of the randomisation team, taking calls from clinicians and registering patients on the trials database. Travel to various research sites may be necessary.

You should be educated to ‘A’ level, NVQ4 or equivalent, have previous experience within a data-handling environment with excellent IT skills, good attention to detail and the ability to work both largely independently as well as effectively as part of a team. An understanding of medical terminology, either through study or working in medical environment would be an advantage.

The Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU) is a leading national clinical trials unit (CTU) within the College of Medical & Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham specialising in the design, conduct and analysis of definitive clinical trials and test evaluation studies, under the Directorship of Professor Peter Brocklehurst.

BCTU was established in 1997, and has evolved into one of the largest and most effective CTUs in the UK, undertaking high quality late phase clinical trials, diagnostic and test evaluation studies, systematic reviews and methodological research across a wide range of disease areas in both the primary and secondary care settings. BCTU has a strong human resource base of over 100 people, with specialist statistical, methodological, trial management, quality assurance and database development expertise, who currently oversee the design, setup, coordination, analysis and reporting of the Unit’s clinical trial research.

As a UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered CTU, the BCTU’s experience in co-ordinating multi-centre clinical trials, the presence of expert staff and robust quality assurance systems, and evidence of long-term viability of capacity for trial co-ordination is well recognised.  The unit receives National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) CTU funding to support the unit in developing and supporting NIHR trials. Our aim is to help stimulate, develop, conduct, support, analyse and report high quality clinical research to generate more reliable evidence on causes and best treatment of a wide range of diseases. The Unit has a strong track record of coordinating cutting edge clinical trials from initiation through to completion.

Support band 400. Salary from £19,156 to £20,514 per year with potential for progression to £25,009
