Research Associate in Fabrication of Graphene-based Coatings on Advanced High Strength Steel

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in the Department of Materials at Imperial College, London to undertake research on the design, fabrication and testing of graphene coatings on high strength steel in a project funded by Arcelor Mittal.

An enthusiastic and highly motivated individual is sought possessing a strong background in experimental chemistry, material science, structural and mechanical characterization, together with a demonstrated capacity to learn new skills/techniques quickly. Previous experience in the synthesis and characterization of graphene oxide and graphene oxide-based structures (films, composites…) is essential. Experience in electrophoretic deposition and the mechanical characterization of films would be an advantage. You will also have a PhD (or equivalent in in Materials, Chemistry, Physics or related scientific/engineering discipline).

The post holder will report to Professor Eduardo Saiz and it is expected that she/he will use the position as a springboard towards attaining a permanent position at a world-leading academic institution or high-tech company.

In addition to the research, there is the opportunity for the post holder to develop teaching experience. For example, organising an undergraduate lab experiment, supervising MEng research projects and helping with the supervision of PhD students on linked projects.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
