We are seeking a Research Associate funded by a UK grant entitled ‘Vehicle to Grid Oxford (V2GO)’. The successful applicant will join an industry led consortium with the University of Oxford as one of the partners that will develop, trial, and evaluate potential business models for fleet operators' use of electric vehicles and their suitability for vehicle-to-grid charging. The postholder will work on the monitoring and evaluation of the trial that is at the centre of the V2GO project. They will engage in a qualitative panel study among vehicle fleet managers and drivers in selected organisations and also conduct a survey among those groups. Collaboration with colleagues in the Energy and Power Group in the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Oxford and in the V2GO partners will be an important part of the postholder’s activities.

The main duties are to develop and conduct theoretically informed, empirical grounded research on the trialling and deployment of vehicle-to-grid technologies, as well as their implications for vehicle fleet management, organisational routines, energy consumption and the transition towards low-carbon mobility and participate in consortium activities such as meetings and events.

The successful candidate must have a PhD or have a PhD submitted (at time of job interview) in transport studies, innovation studies or related fields. You will have in-depth understanding of theoretical approaches that can be used to understand the adoption, use and experience of socio-technical innovations in mobility, ideally within organisations. You must have excellent skills in qualitative methods in particular in-depth interviewing and document analysis and quantitative methods especially survey research and statistical analysis. A good research and publication record, judged by the candidate's career stage is essential.

This position is available from 1 October 2018 fora fixed-term of 24 months.
