Politics is a large, diverse, collegiate, and pluralistic department, with over fifty permanent faculty members across two campuses (in Devon and Cornwall). We specialise in a range of areas including international relations, security studies, political theory, public administration, electoral behaviour, European governance, rural policy, and quantitative and qualitative methods. The last two UK research assessment exercises (REF2014 and RAE2008) have placed us firmly in the top ten departments in the country. In addition to our commitment to world-class research, we prioritise first-rate teaching, and regularly excel in the National Student Survey. Over half of our faculty members are non-UK and we warmly welcome international applicants.

The role

The post of Lecturer in International Security and Strategy/International Relations, with special responsibilities within our Strategy and Security Institute (SSI). Established in 2012 under the directorship of Lieutenant General (Retd) Sir Paul Newton, SSI is an interdisciplinary research centre addressing the strategic deficit of a world beset by instability and insecurity. We are looking for someone who can contribute to the teaching and organisation of this programme as well as core International Relations undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Politics department. In addition to housing the Centre for Advanced International Studies – comprised of twenty core staff members as well as post-doctoral fellows and research students – the department teaches three different MA programmes, in International Relations, Politics and International Relations of the Middle East, and Conflict, Security and Development.

The post will involve conducting research of international quality, the delivery of outstanding teaching, and collegiate contribution to a friendly and dynamic department.
