Lecturer in Politics

This is a .85 fte fixed term contract for 1 year

Oxford Brookes is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Politics. Beyond the ability to deliver introductory modules in Politics, we are looking for applicants whose research and teaching interests lie in the areas of nationalism, identity and ethnicity. A preference will also be given to applicants with research and teaching expertise in the Central Asian region.

You will be responsible for:

  • Teaching students using appropriate instruction methods and setting and assessing students' work. Providing lecturing and seminar support on other modules in Politics and International Relations
  • Supervising and assessing students' projects and dissertations
  • Undertaking research and developing a research plan and publication strategy, supported by senior colleagues, and to engage in scholarly activity (e.g. keeping up to date with developments in the discipline
  • Contributing to curriculum development work including planning, development, evaluation and updating of courses and course materials
  • Caring for the pastoral needs of students including counselling, welfare and guidance

You should have:

  • A PhD in Politics or closely related discipline, or be near completion.
  • Experience of teaching or demonstrable potential to teach at undergraduate level
  • Ability to lead and teach the following modules; Introduction to Politics, Nationalism, Identity and Ethnicity and (ideally) Central Asia in Global Politics.
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

International applicants from outside the EU will need to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK.
