Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Sociology (3 posts)

University of Gloucestershire - School of Natural and Social Sciences

The School of Natural and Social Sciences is seeking to make appointments to three new Lecturer/Senior Lecturer posts that will sit within our Social Sciences subject community. These posts are an investment to support growth in teaching and research within Criminology, Sociology and Policing.

Two of these appointees will make a contribution to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Criminology and Sociology, which include: BSc (Hons) Criminology, BA (Hons) Sociology, BSc (Hons) Criminology& Sociology, and MSc Criminology. We are particularly interested in candidates able to teach elements across both disciplines. For details of the post in Policing, see the list of current vacancies on the University website.

Our ethos is student-centred, and we value inspirational teaching that is both research-informed and connects student learning to real world issues. Staff are encouraged to undertake applied research and consultancy with stakeholders in public and third sector organisations, which in turn will create new opportunities for students to apply their learning and explore career opportunities.

The post-holders should offer a publication profile consistent with career stage. Depending on specialism, the post-holders could be submitted to REF 2021 within UoA 14 (Geography and Environmental studies), or UoA 4 (Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience). We are also seeking to build capacity for a submission to the following REF in Sociology/Social Policy so we encourage applications from early and mid-career academics with significant potential to develop a strong research profile. The post-holders will have the opportunity to supervise research students.

On appointment the successful applicant will be allocated to either the Teaching & Scholarship or the Teaching & Research job family, depending on their experience and expertise. Staff in post can make a case to transfer between job families.

Based at our attractive campus in Cheltenham, we offer a welcoming and positive working environment. Information on the School of Natural and Social Sciences is available in a separate document.

These positions are available for a start in August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

For further information relating to the post, informal enquiries may be made to Dr Jon Hobson, Academic Subject Leader for Social Sciences (jhobson@glos.ac.uk).

Further information on our Criminology and Sociology courses can be accessed on the University website.

Closing date: 5pm Monday 21st May 2018.

Interview date: Thursday 31st May 2018.

The University understands the benefits of recruiting a diverse range of people and welcome applications from under-represented sections of the community.
