Rail/Transit Systems Engineer

Main functions

  • Know, respect and apply SENER’s philosophy and fundamental values, organizational and operating principles, standards and procedures.
  • Understand client’s requirements and assess documentation to ensure that a compliant solution is designed and/or implemented utilizing industry best practices.
  • Deliver assigned tasks in accordance with the requirements and scope, within the agreed timescales and budgeted costs, in accordance with Company’s quality standards and procedures and all applicable legal requirements.
    Provide relevant inputs to other disciplines and functions.
  • Hands on design - produce and review reports, analyses, specifications, calculations, drawings, plans, etc.
  • Interface and co-ordinate (discuss and agree scope, meet, lead discussions, make presentations, etc.) with clients and partners.
  • Interface and co-ordinate (as above) with other engineering disciplines.
  • Monitor the status of design and provide guidance to more junior engineers and to drafters.
  • Manage design.


  • Ideally 10 - 15 years’ experience in either:
    • PTC (Positive Train Control), CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control), Signaling.
    • Communications Systems.
    • Electrification (Traction, OCS, etc.).
    • Systems Engineering (Requirements Engineering, V&V).
  • Desirable experience in railway/transit operations and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with AREMA standards, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
  • Degree in engineering (Bachelor or equivalent, as a minimum).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered in Ontario.
  • Established relationships with rail industry players in the Ontario market is highly desirable.
  • Ability to develop non-standard solutions.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processes.
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office.
  • Business fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Legally able to work in Canada
