The York Trials Unit (YTU) is one of the UK’s leading centres for the design, conduct and analysis of randomised controlled trials. Due to the continued success of the Unit, we are now seeking to appoint a new Grade 7 Research Fellow.

You will work closely with the lead for orthopaedic trials, Dr Catriona McDaid, to support the ongoing development of the orthopaedic workstream at the Unit. The post offers the opportunity to be part of a large and successful multi-disciplinary Department, renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to policy relevant research. You will collaborate on grant applications in the area of orthopaedics; plan and manage trials and other research projects; lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes, disseminate your research through publications, seminars and conference presentations and undertake peer review of research publications and actively contribute to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). You will also develop ideas for generating income and promoting the research area, including contributing to the process of securing external funding.

  • First or higher degree in a relevant discipline
  • PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience of conducting independent and collaborative research
  • Knowledge of trial design and conduct and other relevant methods
  • Knowledge of the agenda around funding and undertaking research in the NHS
  • Ability to lead and/or take responsibility for large scale research projects
  • Proven ability to attract and obtain external research funding
  • Experience of writing up research work for peer-reviewed publications and other forms of dissemination
  • Strong collaborative ethos
