Research Development Officer

University of Hull - Research and Innovation

Faculty/Area: Research and Enterprise

Department: Research and Innovation

The University of Hull has been shaping the future since 1927. With a vision that emphasises the pursuit of excellence, the Institution’s plans are bold and ambitious. Central to this is significant investment in its campus, and the provision of a genuinely supportive environment for Faculty and students alike. The recent appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Susan Lea, represents a new chapter in the Institution’s evolution and there can be little doubt that the next few years represent a significant opportunity for the University of Hull to further define its position within the UK Higher Education Sector.

Research & Enterprise has been a key part of the University’s mission statement since it was founded, and we are aiming to significantly increase our level of Research & Enterprise-related activities, outputs and impact as part of our ambitious strategic plan (2016-2020). We are therefore investing significant resources, enabling to create a step-change in our research performance. This includes the appointment of a new Research Development Officer (RDO) who would be able to cover one or more of the following areas, arts & humanities, social sciences, and/or business and management studies.

The RDO will be part of the Research Development Team (RDT) and will closely with the Research Development Manager for Arts, Cultures and Social Science and the Head of the RDT and proactively assist with the development and support of the delivery of the University’s strategy to increase the quality and volume of its research and secure the funding to do so. The RDO will provide advice and support to the research community in securing high quality and high value external funding. This will require the development and maintenance of strategic relationships with key funding bodies and the support of relationships with private and third sector organisations. The post-holder will help to drive co-production and collaborative approaches to research, facilitating ambitious research ideas and help with the management of research proposals. The RDO will work closely with other members of Research and Innovation office and ensure maximum support to senior managers and the academic community.

As a Research Development Officer you will have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and/or experience; proven experience in research support administration/management as well as pre-award research administration/management; and an extensive and current knowledge of the research funding landscape.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University’s Research Development Team and play a key role in supporting the transformation of our research capacity and capability at the University of Hull. Members of the team are enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals with the skills and experience to play a key role in helping academic researchers to develop a world-class portfolio of research that has extensive impact.
