Research Fellow in Epigenetics and Haematology

The University of Edinburgh

Multidisciplinary Research Project at:

The Roslin Institute, The University of Edinburgh

Research on both chromatin biology and haematopoiesis at the University of Edinburgh has expanded dramatically over the last few years and has became one of the strongest in the UK. This postdoctoral position under the supervision of Douglas Vernimmen / Alan Archibald (The Roslin Institute), Kamil Kranc (MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine (MRC CRM) and Chris Ponting (MRC Human Genetics Unit (HGU) offers an excellent opportunity to obtain multidisciplinary training in these fields. We seek to recruit a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our dynamic and enthusiastic research groups to investigate molecular (Doug Vernimmen), cell biology (Kamil Kranc) and computational (Alan Archibald/Chris Ponting) aspects of epigenetics and cancer stem cell biology in acute myeloid leukaemia.

This exciting project will focus on epigenetic pathways of human and pig myeloid cells functions and the role of these pathways in the immune system and leukaemic stem cell behaviour. We intend to utilise this knowledge to decipher the genetic control of complex traits, including susceptibility/resistance to disease and the development of epigenetic therapy targeting leukaemic stem cells.

The applicants should have PhD in life sciences and strong expertise in cell (tissue culture and flow cytometry) and molecular biology (including CRISPR approaches) with relevant publications.
Knowledge of bioinformatics approaches is desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team as well as semi-independently are crucial.

The appointment will be until 31st December 2019 in the first instance and is available immediately.
