The Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting was established in 1984 and currently has 23 academic staff. It strives to provide high quality teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in a vibrant learning environment, drawing on its research strengths in all three disciplines. The Department is committed to fostering a strong research culture among its members, with an emphasis on publishing output in leading international journals. Staff also play an influential role in social and economic development at a local and national level. The Role

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer in Economics. The person appointed will have a proven record of research and teaching appropriate to career stage. He/she will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and PhD students.

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.

The Department currently has vibrant research groups in the areas of International Trade/Industrial Organisation, Labour Economics, Political Economy/Public Economics and Macroeconomics. While we have some preference for applicants in these fields, all excellent candidates irrespective of field, will be considered for the post.

Salary

Lecturer (2017*): €51,808 – €76,936 p.a. (7 points)

Assistant Lecturer (2017*): €32,820 €57,603 p.a. (14 points)

Appointment will be made in accordance with the Department of Finance pay guidelines.

*New entrants to the public sector will be appointed on the first point of the salary scale.
