Lecturer: FdA in Integrative Counselling

Hours: 1 x teaching day per week (Wednesdays), plus the additional role requirements, many of which can be worked from home if preferred. Please note that while this ratio is paid evenly across a full calendar year, the majority of the work will be required within term-time (i.e. across 36 weeks of the year).

Duration: 1-year fixed term, with the possibility of extension.

Salary: £25,513 - £33,242 pro rata p.a., depending upon experience and qualifications, at a 0.275 ratio. This equates to 71.5 working days per annum, approximately 35 of which are teaching days. Annual leave is paid (pro-rata) in addition to this salary.

FdA Year 2 Lead (day to day delivery)
FdA Course Lead (overall course management issues)

Start date: 6th September 2018
A temporary hourly-paid contract will also be issued between April and July to allow for induction, mentoring and handover processes, hours negotiable.

Selection Method: A 15-minute teaching session (excluding questions) and 30-minute interview.

Teaching Session Topic: You have 15-minutes to deliver part of a 3-hour teaching session, appropriate for a group of second year FdA students, on one of the topics below. Please provide a brief teaching plan for the whole morning (10am-1pm) and indicate where your 15-minute teaching section would be located. You will have access to a laptop and projector, and a flipchart. Please let us know if you have any further specific requirements in advance.

These topics are representative of some of the subject areas in Year 2 of the FdA Course. Please select one area. You are encouraged to choose a title/topic of your own, providing it relates in some way to the following areas:

  1. The Process of Change
  2. Existential approaches in counselling
  3. Creative Arts in Counselling
  4. Primary Care Counselling, IAPT and Government Mental Health Strategy
  5. Ethical Practice and the Management of Ethical Dilemmas, Legal issues and Complaints

Overview of the role

The FdA in Integrative Counselling (Levels 4 and 5) is a University of Worcester validated programme that prepares students to qualify as counsellors and was written to meet the BACP Gold Book course accreditation criteria. As an FdA Lecturer you will also be connected with the University of Worcester (subject to approval) as a Registered Lecturer. You will be working closely with the Year 2 Lead, delivering teaching as required by the programme specifications, and will provide ongoing support for students in your group to reach their potential. We aim, at all times, to offer a warm and friendly learning environment with exceptional care and support of our students, and at the same time ensuring that high academic and ethical standards are maintained. The role holder will work within the HE staff team and the wider IMC staff team, and will be mentored and supported by the Year 2 Lead and the FdA Course Lead.
