The School of Arts & Social Sciences is an internationally excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions. It is a large and vibrant School with around 3,000 students (one-third postgraduate) and over 250 staff in seven Departments: Economics, English, International Politics, Journalism, Music, Sociology and Psychology. The School aims to attract outstanding members of academic staff who will produce world-leading and internationally excellent research; to provide innovative and stimulating programmes of study; and transform the lives and enhance the career prospects of its students.

Responsibilities
The Department of Sociology is a leading centre for research and education. REF 2014 confirmed the high quality of its research and the Department rose in the rankings to equal 16th in the UK: 74% of its submitted research was graded as world-leading or internationally excellent, increasing from 45% in RAE 2008.

The Department delivers research-led education to approximately 600 students.

The Department is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic, with an emerging or established internationally excellent record of research, to a Lectureship, or Senior Lectureship in Criminology. The appointed academic will deliver education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, participate in the supervision of students and contribute fully to the life and work of the Department.
