Job Summary 

Research Programme

You will work within the NIHR Imperial BRC Brain Sciences Theme. The research work carried out within the Brain Sciences Theme aims to develop new approaches for underserved young people, focusing on emotional and behavioural dysregulation seen across psychiatric disorders in this group. In particular, the young population often presents physical health comorbidities and additional social care and educational needs, falling through the net of standard mental health care provision. The findings from this post will help to inform other research carried out within the Brain Sciences Theme focusing on treatment innovation and digital tools. 

Innovation and Data Analytics – West London NHS Trust 

At West London NHS Trust, you will apply data analytical skills to real world health populations, threading the Trust digital, business informatics, quality improvement (QI) and research and development offer. Population sociodemographic and clinical data have too long been inadequately utilised by healthcare services. This post is part of West London NHS Trust’s strategy to redress this, including the recent appointment of an executive level Chief Digital Information Officer – one of the first in mental health care – alongside a Board commitment to invest in, and support the smarter use of technology and data.

The post will support clinicians make better decisions based on real-time information and demonstrate their activities, contributing to the on-going development and maintenance of the Trust data warehouse and Tableau data visualisation development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Apply data analytical skills to real-world health populations
  • Collaborate with the NIHR Imperial BRC Brain Sciences Theme to drive treatment innovation and develop digital tools
  • Support clinicians in making better decisions based on real-time information
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Trust data warehouse and Tableau data visualization development
  • Conduct a detailed review of recent literature
  • Develop and apply new concepts
  • Analyze and resolve complex information queries
  • Present reports using SQL, Excel functions, and SPC concepts
  • Use Tableau for building reports and data analysis
  • Direct the work of a small research/data analytic team

Essential Requirements:

  • Educational background in epidemiology, health informatics, data science, or any related field, with a PhD or equivalent experience in research, industry, or commercial settings
  • Practical experience within a research environment and/or publication in relevant and refereed journals
  • Expert understanding of relational databases, specifically Microsoft SQL
  • Detailed knowledge of SQL Server 2016 or higher
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of clinical services, key diagnoses, and mental health diagnostic and prescribing codes
  • Knowledge of research methods and statistical procedures
  • Highly developed data analysis skills using SQL, Excel functions, and SPC concepts
  • Experience in using Tableau for building reports and data analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and support others to produce high-quality work

Further Information

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 2 years based over 3 sites, White City, Hammersmith and St Bernard’s Hospital in Ealing.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.
