Job Description
The post is to build capacity for research and education within the Department of Women & Children’s Health under the School of Life Course & Population Sciences.
This post includes 50% clinical activity in an Obstetric focussed Senior Registrar rota line.
The post holder will have a background in one of the Department’s strategic research areas: premature birth, global health, parturition, reproductive and developmental biology, or other pregnancy complications, and be expected to realise the potential for integrated research activity across the wider School. The post holder will have an excellent track record in research; a proven ability to attract external funding to support their research programme, and a good record of publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. Whilst primarily a career research focussed post, the postholder will undertake some leadership within the MSc in Women & Children’s Health (e.g. module leadership, teaching, assessment and administration) and contribute to other relevant teaching within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. Experience of teaching at a relevant level (e.g. BSc/MBBS or MSc teaching) and in an area related to Women & Children’s Health is therefore essential. The post will be predominantly based across two campus sites, St Thomas’ Hospital and KCL’s Guy’s Campus. Teaching activities will be mainly across KCL’s Guy’s and Waterloo Campuses but could also be at other sites.
You will participate in our ST6-7 Obstetrics & Gynaecology rota which includes cover for first on-call obstetrics and gynaecology (with ST1-5 and consultant support) obstetric elective lists; wards; and clinics.
This role is designed to provide cover across our obstetrics service.
Obstetric duties will include working at ST6-7 level on the hospital birth centre (HBC) as third on-call (and senior decision maker overnight, with an offsite Consultant on call), antenatal clinics, maternity assessment unit (MAU), ward rounds on the antenatal and postnatal wards and elective theatre list on HBC.
The post-holder will have passed MRCOG part 3 (or equivalent) and must have completed at least 3 years at registrar or equivalent level (ST3-5) in an RCOG approved (or equivalent) unit. If you already have experience at ST6-7 level, that is of benefit.
The post also includes first on call cover for acute gynaecology at night. The holder will be expected to take an active part in the management of gynaecological emergencies on the emergency gynaecology unit and gynaecology ward, as well as pre-operative and post-operative management of patients.
This post is fixed term Until September 2027.
This is a full-time post – 100% FTE.
