Pembroke College wishes to appoint a part-time College Lecturer (Career Development) in Applied Mathematics, from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2026. 

We welcome applicants with expertise in Applied Mathematics. We have a lively Mathematics community in Pembroke and you will work alongside a number of academics and researchers in the college.

All of our teaching is in small groups (tutorials of two students and classes of up to six). We expect you mainly to teach Non-Physical Applied Mathematics to students in the first and second years of the degrees in Mathematics, Maths and Philosophy, Maths and Statistics, or Maths and Computer Science, and to students on their Junior Year Abroad from Universities in the USA, Hong Kong and China who are studying Mathematics or Mathematics and Computer Science. More specifically, the lecturer’s teaching will include tutorials in Prelims Probability, A9 Statistics, A7 Numerical Analysis and ASO Calculus of Variations in first instance, and the lecturer will also organise and host 2 student seminars per term for the Pembroke Maths Club.

The postholder will be required to provide teaching for an average of three hours’ contact time per week during the eight weeks of Oxford’s three terms. You will be expected to set and mark weekly problem sheets, set and mark college exams, and participate in undergraduate admissions.  You will also take on some administrative and pastoral responsibilities, including organising teaching and helping students to adjust to the course in their first term at Oxford.

The salary will be in the range of £8,246 - £9,837 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. You will have a teaching and research allowance of £187.50 per annum., use of a room for teaching, and you will also be able to take some lunches and dinners free of charge in College throughout the year. All salary figures are 2023-24 rates and are subject to annual uplift.
