The Project

The University of Essex in partnership with Filament Ltd offers an exciting opportunity to lead on a project furthering tooling into the realm of visual classification & tagging, and delivering this ability into the hands of the domain experts for Filament Ltd. This post is fixed term for 36 months and is based at the Filament Ltd offices in London.

Please note this role is subject to funding approval (funding outcome expected early November 2017).

The Role and Duties

The duties of the post will include developing the image tooling roadmap within Filament’s suite of AI products:

  • The development of a visual classification and image tagging tool.
  • Front end development (user interface)
  • Planning and maintaining database structures and within the database structures to build appropriate datasets and analyse image tagging.
  • The development of the Functional Layer – e.g. segmentation, binarisation.
  • The development of the core machine learning platform: pattern recognition using both supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques in the light of business needs. This will be executed using Java, Python or C++ programming.
  • Embedding of knowledge of image classifying within the company.
  • Creating operational documentation and providing subsequent support and training for users.

Qualifications and Skills required

The post holder must have:

  • MSc or Higher Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or Physics.
  • High-level knowledge and experience of pattern recognition, computer vision, image processing, computational intelligence.
  • Knowledge of Java, Python or C++ programming.


As a KTP Associate, the post will offer the following benefits:
