AI and Data Science: From responsible and trustworthy AI to using AI in sustainability, this area is growing and with the potential to influence and enrich everything from digital healthcare and machine learning, to cultural and creative practice and performance. Artificial Intelligence will span the full breadth of our future research.

Sustainability and Resilience: From resilient coastlines to sustainability in fashion the research in this area continues to expand. Impacting environmental, social, cultural and economic thinking, sustainability is at the heart of our University in so many ways, and will be key to solving some of the world’s most important environmental challenges.

Decarbonisation: Pioneering research and advancement will pave the way for decarbonisation, with green energy and sustainable systems underpinned by policy and governance. Net zero targets, low carbon heating, electric transport systems, environmental accounting and marine nature-based solutions shows just how this area impacts so many parts of our society.

Engineering Better Health: Providing better health outcomes to make real and lasting benefits for all using technological approaches, designs and developments. Digital health apps, implantable technologies, e-textiles and therapeutic fabric design are just a few examples of the exciting opportunities in this research area.
