Hunan University dates back to the Yuelu Academy founded in 976 AD during the Song Dynasty over 1000 years ago and is considered to be one of the oldest and most important national universities in China.

Today, Hunan University is a large, successful university with a graduate school and 23 colleges, offering programs in 11 fields, i.e., philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, medicine and art. We are a member of the state's "Project 985" and "Project 211" university group, who have priority to access national research and educational funding due to their outstanding academic excellence.
