Founded in 1981, the University of Macau (UM) is a comprehensive research-oriented public university of international standing, with a multicultural campus and a system of whole-person education underpinned by faculties and residential colleges in an international education setup.

UM is ranked No.28 in Asia (THE Asia University Rankings) and No.145 in the world (THE World University Rankings). English is the primary medium of instruction.

We are a diverse community, with eighty per cent of its faculty members are from outside Macao. The university is committed to cultivating innovative and socially responsible graduates who exhibit love for their home country and possess global perspectives and competitiveness.

We attract students from more than 40 countries and regions and provide whole-person education highlighted by a unique ‘4-in-1’ collaborative education model, which consists of discipline-specific education, general education, research and internship education, and community and peer education. This is underpinned by a system of 10 residential colleges, and joint programmes with renowned partners around the world.

With a credit system and a residential college system, the university offers over 140 degree programmes at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our teaching units include the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Design, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Information Science and Computing, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Honours College, Graduate School, and Centre for Continuing Education. The university’s research institutes include the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Brain Sciences, Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences, Institute of Collaborative Innovation, Institute of Microelectronics, Institute of Smart City Technologies, Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management, and Centre for Macau Studies.
