UWS Signature Research and Innovation
At UWS, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are translated into world-class research that underpins globally impactful innovations. We are proud about our signature research capabilities that are central to developing distinctive research and innovation.
Our research and innovation flourish through collaborations and our approach to forming effective teams is highly regarded by external partners. Leadership in Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) forms a key part of this success, and we are thriving in large research consortia, tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges. We help our industry partners finding solutions where nobody else could by simultaneously bringing together cutting-edge research expertise, knowledge exchange and an array of bespoke research facilities. The result is that our research and innovations have a tangible, early and remarkably positive impact on society and our planet.
This is UWS’s signature research: right here, right now, we are making the world a better place.
Partnership Success
Our partnerships with business, industry and the public and voluntary sectors, worldwide, are exemplary. Our research and innovation flourishes through these strong collaborations. For example, working with Phoenix Instinct we developed a ground-breaking ultralight wheelchair, which led to the company winning a $1million global competition.
Eco-Friendly Technology
An eco-friendly technology, patented by UWS, and believed to be the first of its kind in the industry, has been developed to disrupt ‘fast fashion.’ The technology offers retailers and brands a way of effectively and safely sanitising used clothing and accessories to help dramatically reduce textile waste.
Transforming Aquaculture Health Diagnostics
UWS spin-out company WellFish Tech is transforming health diagnostic practices in the global aquaculture sector. Its groundbreaking approach allows fish farmers to continuously monitor the health of their stock, via blood sampling, without sacrificing fish. This improves fish welfare and empowers farmers to proactively identify and address potential health issues, boosting farm productivity.
Worldwide Water Leaks Targeted
Millions of litres of water lost from leaking underground pipes, globally, could be saved through an innovative solution developed by pioneering technology company FIDO Tech and UWS academics. The cloud-based solution has been designed to accurately detect the location of hidden leaks, 90% of which never show above ground.
