Applications are invited for the post of Part – Time Mental Health Coordinator.

Working as part of a growing team in the new medical school (Malta) this new role is critical to the university’s ability to meet the needs of its students with mental health difficulties.

The post holder will be expected to co-ordinate the support of students with declared mental health issues and respond to students in crisis situations. This involves providing advice and clear guidance to staff as well as Professional Services on how to manage specific situations created by individual students and coordinating with external agencies who may also be involved in the student’s care.

The post holder will act as the specialist for students presenting with mental health issues at any stage in the lifetime of their studies at the university and to present as a first point of contact for those students and any third parties advocating or representing them. This will involve the recommendation for reasonable adjustments, as necessary.

The post holder will work with the Head of Student Support, Malta to develop and co-ordinate policy, practice and activities with regard to students with mental health difficulties; liaising with other university services, as required.

A relevant professional qualification/training (e.g. Counselling, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Psychiatric Social Work and Occupational Therapy) is essential as well as significant experience of working with adults and/or young people with mental health difficulties. The post holder should have a thorough knowledge of mental health issues, services, practices, provision and legislation in Malta and an understanding and knowledge of the Maltese medical system.

An awareness of student experiences and the difficulties students face in Higher Education is desirable. Understanding of cultural issues as they relate to the area of mental health working in a hospital or academic environment is essential and candidates will be able to demonstrate an organised and methodical person approach. 

This post will be employed by QMUL Malta Ltd a wholly owned subsidiary of Queen Mary University of London and will be based in Malta. The post is term time only and the post holder will work 10 hours per week during the academic sessions (total of 35 weeks).

The salary is €6150 per annum.
