Background

The School of Human and Life Sciences seeks to harness and integrate insights from fundamental, applied and social sciences to improve the conditions of human living. It has approximately 75 academic staff and 15 professional service and technical support staff providing innovative multi-disciplinary science and social science education across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 1400 students. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the majority of the School’s submitted research was assessed to be world leading and internationally excellent.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a University Instructor in the Section of Sport and Exercise Sciences within the School of Human & Life Sciences. The successful candidate will teach and provide teaching support in one or more of the following areas: Biomechanics, Sociology, Coaching and Physiology across the undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Section.

The post holder will deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical work on the programmes related to their expertise. The post holder will devise and support academic classes and will have the ability to deliver from both ‘theoretical’ and ‘applied practice’ perspectives. The post holder will also contribute to the research methods teaching in the Section. The successful candidates will enrol on the PhD programme in a strategic area aligned with the research objectives of the Section.

Requirements

The post holder will have the minimum of a good honours degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant discipline. They will have a commitment to delivering a high-quality student experience, and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills.
