The Department of Civil Engineering is seeking outstanding candidates for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Structural Engineering at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. The appointee will contribute to the development of a green civil engineering program and must be motivated and skilled to conduct engineering work towards reducing environmental impacts of human activities. The Department aspires to have the greenest civil engineering program in Canada, addressing the most pressing global environmental and sustainability challenges through engineering design, science and practical solutions. We are working towards a future where our built environment works within the carrying capacity of the local environment and the planet – and our infrastructure is sustainable and resilient to climate change.
The Department is searching for a potential or established leader with an excellent record of professional achievement in developing sustainable and/or resilient structures, using computational methods, experimentation or structural design. To both mitigate and adapt to climate change – as well as address other environmental concerns - structural engineers are developing light-weight, durable structures, employing green materials. New and existing structures must also be made resilient to climate extremes, as well as other shocks such as earthquakes.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in research, graduate student supervision, and teaching. An exceptional research record is required including substantial recent publications in top-tier venues. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate students, establish an active research program, and participate in the academic affairs of the university. Ability to teach undergraduate engineering courses broadly across all areas of structural engineering/design is required.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or a related field, together with excellent verbal and written communication, and experience of collaboration with colleagues of engineering and non-engineering backgrounds. Candidates must be registered as a professional engineer or be eligible for and committed to registration. Registration as a structural engineer will be an asset.
