Department of Marketing, Retail and Tourism is one of the UK’s largest providers of education in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Advertising and Branding, Public Relations, Retail Management, Place Management and Tourism Management. Our undergraduate, apprenticeship, postgraduate and research degrees provide professionally focused education. We are home to the internationally renowned Institute of Place Management, an Institute of Travel and Tourism Centre of Excellence and an Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) Education Partner.
We are looking to appoint a Reader in Tourism Management. The Reader in Tourism Management will provide Subject Leadership for the Tourism programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, driving curriculum development and portfolio diversification in the subject area. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Reader will contribute to the achievement of the Department’s key performance targets and assume line management responsibility for academic staff.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop their personal distinction in their particular field and make a sustained and innovative contribution to its advancement through scholarship and research. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to teaching, supervision of students, and to administrative duties in the Department of Marketing, Retail & Tourism. They are also called upon to contribute to cross Faculty and University duties, as well as supporting Internal and External representation duties.
You will have an in depth understanding of the subject Tourism Management, ideally including recent developments in the travel and tourism sector. An understanding of degree-level Apprenticeships is desirable. You will need to evidence experience of line managing academic staff and a commitment to undertaking professional development to support the post’s line management responsibilities.
