The Genome Biology Unit is looking for outstanding candidates performing exciting interdisciplinary research, that combines cutting edge genomics and computation to gain systematic and mechanistic insights in an area that complements and extends ongoing themes within the Unit. Topics include, gene regulation, environment-epigenetic interactions, post-transcriptional or post-translational regulation, modeling across different molecular layers from genotype-to phenotype. We also welcome strong proposals in technology development including single cell and microfluidics genomic approaches.

The Genome Biology Unit studies the molecular mechanisms by which genetic information is expressed and regulated to yield diverse biological systems, combining cutting edge approaches to dissect and model complex processes going from genotype to phenotype. The Unit hosts 10 independent research groups, working on synergistic topics, creating a very vibrant and supportive environment. EMBL is a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary research institute with a rich diversity and lively international community.

Your role

You will lead an independent research group to pursue exciting and original research in the broad domain of Genome Biology. EMBL generally appoints group leaders early in their career and provides a very supportive, collegial and family friendly environment in which to develop exciting, cutting-edge research. Significant core funding and very limited teaching obligations allow you undertake an ambitious, farsighted research program.

You have an outstanding Ph.D. and post-doctoral record, an exciting and ambitious interdisciplinary research plan for your future group, and be strongly motivated to collaborate with surrounding colleagues.

An initial contract of 5 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This is foreseen to be extended to a maximum of 9 years, subject to an external review.
