Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 in the UCD School of Chemistry.
This project will involve developing synthetic methods for production (at scale) of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with strong magnetic response, forming nanocomposites by combining the MNPs with hydrogels, and evaluating their potential for tissue engineering applications. The Group have developed some of the relevant nanoparticle surface chemistry and colloidal techniques, and have expertise in hydrogel formation.
In this part of the project further improvements in MNP preparation (reproducibility and scale up) will be undertaken. Novel hydrogels incorporating MNPs for controlled stimulus-response will be prepared. The response (including drug release) of bulk- and nano-gels on application of magnetic fields will be assessed.
