NEW for 2019 – Vice Chancellor’s Award Studentship

Surrey received a Gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), achieved a 90 per cent overall satisfaction rating in the 2016 National Student Survey, and has maintained a graduate employment rate of 95 per cent over the past five years, according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
The University has earned a strong reputation for ground-breaking research in the areas of health, medicine, space, environment and mobile communications. It is currently home to over 1,000 postgraduate researchers, and nearly 450 supervisors, working together across 170+ research areas.
Committed to recruiting and supporting talented doctoral researchers, we are delighted to be able to offer over 100 fully funded studentships for 2019 across a range of disciplines, including a new Vice Chancellor’s Award Studentship.

Vice Chancellor’s Award Studentship
The University of Surrey is delighted to offer 10 Vice-Chancellor’s Studentship Awards for outstanding prospective international PhD students. These studentships recognise outstanding international candidates by offering a premium funding package to support their development.
These studentships are now available to students starting in October 2019. They offer a generous full fee waiver, £15,000 stipend, a Research Training Support Grant of £1,000 and financial support for research materials and consumables (if successfully applied for) up to the value of £2,000.
These awards are only available to international students.
Doctoral College Studentship Award
Surrey’s Doctoral College is pleased to be awarding over 100 fully funded studentships to outstanding PhD candidates across a range of disciplines.
These studentships are now available to students starting in October 2019. They offer a generous full fee waiver, £15,000 stipend, a Research Training Support Grant of £500 and financial support for research materials and consumables (if successfully applied for) up to the value of £1,000.
Due to the timeframe of this award and visa processing times; these awards are only open to home and EU students.
SeNSS Student-led Studentship
The SeNSS Doctoral Training Partnership, funded by the ESRC is a centre of excellence in social science postgraduate research training, and is in partnership between ten UK universities. SeNSS are offering ESRC fully funded and fees only studentships at the University of Surrey.
TECHNE (AHRC) Studentships
As a member of the TECHNE Doctoral Training Partnership, University of Surrey students are eligible to apply for Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships.
TECHNE is a consortium of ten universities in London and the South East offering a rich and diverse training programme for doctoral students with a focus on interdisciplinary and developing career potential both in and beyond higher education.
This is a fully funded project open to Home and EU candidates only. It is not possible to directly apply to TECHNE for a studentship; applications for students wishing to be based at Surrey must be made via the University of Surrey.

We are offering 37 PhD Fee Scholarships to support talented international doctoral researchers. These awards consist of a scholarship to cover the difference between Overseas and UK/EU tuition fees.
25% Partial Fee Scholarship
We are offering a 25% Partial Fee Scholarship to support 14 prospective international PhD students. Successful applicants will benefit from a 25% international tuition fee reduction.
All Studentships will be awarded on the basis of the academic excellence of both the candidate and the research proposal. This is an extremely competitive process and only very high calibre candidates will be successful.
