This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate position is offered between HWU and TrakM8 Ltd, to develop the first-to-market services to exploit quantum computing in logistics and telematics.

The position is located at Trakm8 PLC, Birmingham. Trakm8 deliver vehicle fleet management solutions, primarily driven by in-vehicle telematics units, tracking vehicle positions and a wealth of associated data e.g. how fast it's traveling & how it is behaving internally. Revenue streams include: (i) sales of tracking units, dashboard cameras, diagnostic units; (ii) services based on generating insight from tracking data, e.g. risk evaluation for insurance companies; (iii) a wide range of optimisation services for fleets & other assets, ranging from standard delivery optimization to complex large mixed-fleet logistics. The post holder will be required to:  Review of Trakm8’s business operations and market, focused on products that depend on machine learning algorithms. This involves understanding how current products are supported by existing machine-learning infrastructure, and the context in which new machine-learning products will have to integrate;  Accelerate and improve current TrakM8 products with Distributed Machine Learning (DML) algorithms. Knowledge transfer to wider team on how DML improves existing TrakM8 machine learning algorithms; Development and application of DML algorithms through documentation, training and collaborative work, and a plan for incorporating DML into commercial products and future roadmaps;  Scope opportunities for Quantum Computing to further transform current machine learning based products; This includes acquiring an overview of current and future quantum technology landscape, establishing a quantum emulator in the TrakM8 developing environment, and building and testing logistics solutions on this emulator; Engineer a prototype of selected QML use-cases exploiting cloud-based quantum computing infrastructure such as the IBMQ experience; Prepare the commercial launch of QML-supported product, which involves final embedding and quality control of QML algorithms in TrakM8 environment, updates to the business model and marketing strategy, and promotion to potential customers via tradeshows and exhibitions.

Suitable candidates are likely to have a PhD in a technical area of mathematics, physics or computer science. However it is conceivable that some particularly strong MSc candidates could be appointable. Mathematical skills (minimally, those associated with a BSc in Computing or Engineering) are essential and computing skills (ideally via a BSc in Computing, or a Masters computing conversion course following a BSc in any other technical discipline;
