Business School Studentships

Employer profile

The University of Edinburgh Business School is looking for highly motivated candidates for several full-time funded PhD studentships to commence in September 2019.

These four-year studentships are based at the University of Edinburgh campus. Students are normally expected to live within commuting distance of Edinburgh. The scholarships cover tuition fees and a stipend of £14,500 per annum for 48 months. Successful applicants will be expected to undertake some teaching and research assistance duties as part of the studentship responsibilities.

Entry to the PhD programme is competitive, and usually requires that applicants have the following minimum qualifications:

  • A postgraduate master's degree from an accredited institution in the UK or overseas (we accept applications from those still currently studying for a masters, but any offer will be conditional on successful completion at the required standard).
  • Evidence of above-average academic achievement (more than 65% overall) and normally a postgraduate master's dissertation with distinction (UK equivalent). MBA or master's students without a dissertation are welcome to apply and should normally provide evidence of distinction level work (UK equivalent).

Our scholarships are awarded by Subject Groups, and some Subject Groups are particularly interested in a number of specific research themes. More information on these themes, and how to apply, can be found here.

Interviews will form part of the selection process for a place on the PhD programme and are either in person or via Skype. Interviews normally comprise a question and answer session for you to talk about your previous research, your current proposal and intended research project, and your reasons for applying to work with your potential supervisor. A further interview for the scholarship application is not required.

Scholarship results are provided after offers are made for a place on the PhD programme and there may be a few weeks between the PhD offer and the scholarship result, depending on the scholarship closing dates.

The closing date for applications is 5pm GMT on Thursday 28 February 2019.
