We are looking for a hydrologist/catchment modeller to work on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Sheffield and Severn Trent Water.

The successful candidate will lead a project in order to develop and implement a new state of the art surface water abstraction system at Severn Trent Water. The system will utilise real time data, new forecasting flow and quality models as well as data analytics to improve both the quantity and quality of water the company is able to take from the surface water environment for public use. It is expected that the new system will have significant benefits in terms of improving the security of water supply as well as reducing the energy use and costs of water treatment.    

The role will mainly be based at Severn Trent Water at their Derby office, although you will also be a member of the Pennine Water Group at the University of Sheffield, one of the largest and most successful water research groups in the UK. As a KTP associate, you will have access to expertise and resources at both Severn Trent and the University. Regular attendance at the University is anticipated, and the role will also require regular visits to other Severn Trent offices/sites.  

It is essential that candidates have a good degree or postgraduate degree in hydrological science, environmental engineering or related disciplines and have experience of analysing data.  Strong communication skills and a strong motivation to learn and develop new skills are also required. You should be able to work well both in a team and independently. Some experience in using software tools such as Python or Matlab is also required. Previous experience related to understanding the fate and transport of pollutants within catchments, data analytics and real time forecasting techniques are also desirable.
