We are currently recruiting for Science PGCE Associate Lecturer/s.

The role will involve flexible / variable hours per week from December 2018 through to August 2019, mainly in school hours, term time only. The role would suit a highly experienced Science specialist, who is able to work across the disciplines. You are perhaps working part-time and looking for a new challenge. Training will be given.

The post is offered on Associate Lecturer pay scale A (£45.80 per hour).

General duties

  • To act as link tutor, for a number of trainees in placement schools:
    • To undertake placement visits: lesson observations, tutor feedback sessions
    • To quality assure placements, ensuring that trainees are receiving appropriate support
    • To mark students’ online reflections and other assignments and offer support and advice where necessary
  • To undertake some teaching as necessary, lectures, seminars and tutorials, in university


The applicant should:

  • Have an understanding of current Science teaching. Subject-specific experience is essential
  • Have experience in providing student support for diverse student groups
  • Actively engage in and support the marking process reliably and accurately
  • Be a good time-keeper, punctual and reliable
  • Engage in the Quality Assurance process, and demonstrate an understanding of and ability to adhere to the regulations
  • Be prepared to assist in the coordination or recruitment, enrolment and induction of students
  • Actively follow and promote LMU policies, including Equal Opportunities
  • Carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post

Person Specifications:

  • Have QTS and PGCE as a Science Specialist
  • A substantial classroom experience, preferably in more than one setting
  • Evidence of own continuing professional development
  • Be competent with IT systems, such as the VLE and online mark-books, registers etc.
