As one of the largest economics departments in the UK, we offer a great diversity of research expertise and research-led teaching. The Department has consistently been ranked top 10 in the UK and top 70 in the world. Our research strategy is founded upon six research clusters, which promote, sustain, and monitor the Department’s research excellence: ‘Applied Microeconometrics’, ‘Econometrics’, ‘Economic Theory’, ‘Health Economics’, ‘Macroeconomics and Finance’, and ‘Political Economy’. Our community of academic staff, students, and visiting researchers is both intellectually vibrant and international in perspective.
Our PhD students devote their time to personal research work, conducted in regular consultation with a dedicated supervisory team. We encourage our PhD students to become actively involved in the Department’s research and teaching, participating in research seminars and workshops, joining relevant research clusters, and being offered the opportunity to take up Teaching Scholarships.
