Up to Six Fully-funded PhD Studentships in Heritage Studies

University of Hull - Heritage Consortium

Training the next generation of heritage professionals and researchers

The Heritage Consortium (led by the University of Hull, consists of Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds Beckett, Northumbria, Sheffield Hallam and Teesside universities) invites high-quality proposals for PhD studentships tenable for three years from 1 October 2019. Applications are submitted to the Consortium. Successful candidates are admitted to one of the member universities with appropriate supervisory expertise, with specialist co-supervision provided by another consortium partner. All students undertake common cohort-based training in Heritage Research, and have access to facilities and research support at the other Consortium members and their network of heritage organisations.

The Consortium invites research proposals in and across the boundaries of the following subject areas, relating to Heritage:

  • Archaeology
  • Archives
  • Cultural History
  • Cultural Geography
  • Cultural Studies and Popular Culture
  • Museum & Gallery Studies
  • Economic & Social History
  • Heritage Management

How to Apply

The Studentships are open to Home or EU applicants who should hold 1st class undergraduate degree, usually together with a Master’s qualification attained or on schedule to be completed, and/or equivalent professional experience. A 2:1 may be considered, if combined with relevant experience.

Studentships can be held either full-time or part-time. They include stipend (living expenses) at the UK Research Council rate and tuition fees.
