CDT in Computational Statistics and Data Science

University of Bristol

The University of Bristol Centre for Doctoral Training in Computational Statistics and Data Science -- COMPASS for short -- is a four-year PhD programme hosted by the Institute for Statistical Science in the School of Mathematics with partners from across the University of Bristol in health, social sciences, science and engineering, together with a wide range of exceptional external partners from industry and government. COMPASS will be based in the newly-refurbished state-of-the-art Fry building, the new home for the University's School of Mathematics.

In Year 1 of the COMPASS programme students complete taught units delivered through lectures, workshops, laboratories, and guided self-study, including peer-supported learning and group work. PhD projects and students are matched to supervisors and research proposals developed through the summer of Year 1, transitioning to full-time research in Years 2-4. PhD research topics range from statistical theory and methods to collaborations with University and external partners.

A COMPASS studentship provides four years of tuition fees at the UK/EU student rate, a tax-free stipend of £18,777 per year for living expenses and a travel allowance to support research related activities. Applications are welcomed from international students. The University may, in some circumstances, waive or part-waive the international element of tuition fees.

COMPASS is now recruiting for its September 2019 intake and early application is advised. Check our website for current deadline dates.
