Location: Central Oxford

Role Description

We are seeking to appoint a Research Engineer who will:

  • Work with the product-engineering and R&D teams on creating and implementing solutions for existing and future core technologies
  • Develop and run numerical models of metamaterial-based RF systems and devices
  • Develop and implement optimisation strategies for RF systems and devices
  • Design and run proof-of-concept numerical experiments for innovative technologies
  • Assess the performance of innovative systems and devices numerically and experimentally

Essential Criteria

  • A PhD degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • Research mindset and experience:
    • ability to break down and solve complex problems
    • ability to make judgements based on numerical or experimental data
    • experience in generating timely high-quality scientific/engineering reports
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures
  • A responsible attitude towards collaboration and independent work
  • Strong background and research experience in Metamaterials and Electromagnetism
  • Solid understanding of circuit theory and RF principles
  • Experience in developing numerical and analytical models of electromagnetic systems
  • Hands-on experience in designing and running RF and/or MW experiments
  • Ability to use Linux OS
  • Knowledge of some or all of the following:
    • Python / Matlab for modelling, design and research purposes
    • Algorithm development
    • Signal processing
    • Deep learning

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in operating oscilloscopes, vector network analysers, spectrum analysers, power meters, programmable loads
  • Experience in near-field experiments (RF)
  • Experience in collaborative software development (Git)
  • Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in working in a start-up environment
