About the team/job

EMBL´s Facility Management located at the headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the EMBL estate properties with a total floor area of 42.000 m2.

Your role

The Senior Architect is reporting directly to the Head of Facility Management and his /her duties comprise the overall architectural concept of the EMBL campus. It includes the development of new constructions on the campus and their realization, restructuring of buildings and parts of them, their exterior appearance as well as up-to-date laboratory planning. She/he supervises the modification and construction of projects including larger projects with a volume amounting to several millions, also at the other EMBL sites. The post holder assumes the position of either project leader or manager. Her/His duties also include competitive calls for tenders.

In addition, the Senior Architect is responsible for the landscaping of the EMBL Campus and supervises the EMBL own gardening group as well as the cleaning and lab kitchen teams. The candidate should be prepared to travel to the EMBL sites to tend to the ongoing projects there. A further central part of her/his duties will comprise campus development. Furthermore, the Senior Architect takes care of the data structure of the CAD System as well as the project data structure.

You have

The ideal candidate should have a degree in a relevant field of study. Ideally 10 years professional experience in structural design and construction management as well as interdisciplinary experience is essential. We expect a creative, assertive and open person with sound expertise and strong management and communication skills. A demonstrated ability to think and act strategically is key. In addition, she/he should be able to prioritize tasks and work under pressure of fixed schedules. The ability to work independently as well as within a team is essential.

The candidate must have strong computer skills and experience in working with CAD and SAP project management as well as profound knowledge of TGA (technical building services). Furthermore, she/he needs to be familiar with the implementation of the HOAI (Fee Structure for Architects and Engineers) and VOB (German Construction Contract Procedures).

Excellent spoken and written English is mandatory, as is a profound working knowledge of German.

You might also have

Experience in building chemistry and biology laboratories is advantageous as well as having recognized qualifications in project management, SiGeKo, energy efficiency and fire protection.
