We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to join us at the department of Computational HydroSystems (CHS) at the UFZ (Leipzig, Germany) to work on the DFG-funded project “XEROS: eXtreme EuRopean drOughtS: Multimodel synthesis of past, present and future events”. XEROS is a part of a bilateral German-Czech project in collaboration with the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague - CULS.

Postdoc (m/f/x)

Full-time position (100%, 39 hours per week), limited to 3 years

Your tasks:

  • Establishment of high-resolution, multi-model hydrologic models across Europe
  • Historical reconstruction and assessment of (meteorological, agricultural and hydrologic) droughts based on multi-model ensembles including benchmarking of severe drought events in a long perspective (i.e., 500-year)
  • Enhancing the reliability of future hydro-climatic projections

Your profile:

  • The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in hydrology/environmental sciences or climatology
  • Very good programming and scripting skills (e.g., Fortran, R, or Python)
  • Sound experience in hydrologic and land-surface modeling with focus on drought assessment
  • Strong scientific background in statistical analysis of hydro-climatic datasets
  • Communication skills in English and willingness to work in a team
  • Present and publish results at scientific conferences and high impact peer-reviewed scientific journal
