The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit at University College London invites applications for an academic position in theoretical or computational neuroscience at the rank of Lecturer, Associate Professor or Professor. The appointment to be made at a rank appropriate to the experience and international standing of the successful candidate.

Established in 1998 through a generous grant from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the Gatsby Unit has been a pioneering centre for both theoretical neuroscience and machine learning. We have core funding to support six positions, associated postdocs and PhD students and computational resources. Faculty may raise additional funds through grants from national and international funding bodies and charities. We have no undergraduate programme, so only graduate-level teaching and supervision is required. The Unit is located in London's vibrant West End, sharing a purpose-built home with the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour (SWC) near the Gower street campus. Our connection with the SWC (and the broader UCL neuroscience community) offers exceptional scope for collaboration with world class experimental neuroscientists.   The Unit offers internationally competitive salaries.

A very strong quantitative background in theoretical or computational neuroscience, machine learning, statistics, computer science, physics or engineering. Faculty members are expected to have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the literature in their appointed research fields, be proficient in its application and have a ready ability to acquire and absorb new information, methods and techniques in the service of research goals.
