British Institute of Persian Studies (BIPS) with part time secondments to British Institute for Eastern Africa (BIEA) and Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) (based in the same office)

Location: 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH

Full time, fixed term position for one year

30 days annual leave including bank holidays

This is a brilliant opportunity to gain experience supporting development, communications and administrative activity for three international research charities based at the British Academy. These charities undertake activities that include; conducting research in the humanities and social sciences, collaborating with overseas and UK-based partners, providing facilities, training and financial, academic and logistical support to researchers, and running events programmes in the UK and overseas. The post holder will be expected to carry out a wide variety of tasks, working closely with and reporting to senior UK staff. It is an extremely busy and varied post, so you will need to be able to make decisions about prioritisation of tasks and be an excellent all-round communicator.

Main duties and responsibilities

  •         Support fundraising and development activities.
  •         Oversee the administration of membership correspondence, outreach and development.
  •         Draft and upload website, communication and social media content.
  •         Manage alumni engagement, including follow up with former grant holders.
  •         Assist in organising events to support a programme of lectures and seminars in the UK.
  •         Provide general administrative support for the organisations.
  •         Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Person specification

Essential

  •         Ability to provide excellent administrative support.
  •         IT knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms and CMS  
            (WordPress)/web-editing.
  •         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a confident personal manner:         
            appropriate for dealing with and building relationships with academics, stakeholders,
            public figures and colleagues.
  •         Good written command of English with the ability to summarise and deliver complex
            statements and messages in a clear and informative way.
  •         Excellent organisational skills, time management and attention to detail.
  •         Capacity for working independently yet also as part of a team, planning and prioritising
            tasks and taking initiative.
  •         Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  •         Membership database experience (training provided on specific software).
  •         Graphic design, audio and video editing skills.
  •         Availability to work some evenings during the year.
