RAL – ISIS Division
ISIS neutron and muon source is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences, our suite of neutron and muon instruments give unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale. ISIS supports a national and international community of more than 2000 scientists.
About the Role
Based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus we now have exciting new opportunities for Mechanical Development Engineers to join the ISIS Design Division, working closely with fellow engineers and scientists to specify, design, procure and develop bespoke mechanical and electrical equipment and complex systems for the facility.
Our engineers are responsible for taking top-level development ideas and managing the complete development process through engineering concept, design, procurement, installation/commissioning, testing and final reporting.
Responsibilities will include:
You will be qualified to HNC/HND or degree level with experience in developing test programmes within a highly complex technical environment. You should be able to demonstrate experience in performing engineering calculations and simulations and the use of 3D modelling and 2D drawing packages. Along with a broad understanding of mechanical engineering and specific in-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
RF cavities / magnetic elements (AC or DC) / high vacuum engineering / precision alignment / materials engineering / cryogenic engineering / FEA analysis / precision motion / remote handling of radioactive materials.
Appointment will be made at either Band D (Engineer £33,000 - £40,000) or Band E (Senior Engineer £40,000 - £50,000) depending on the strength of your skills, experience and qualifications.
